About
Andrew Kostakis is a freelance artist, airbrusher, signwriter and graphic designer, who was selected as one of the finalists in the Wacom Next Level Digital Exhibition in 2018. His inspiration comes from watching endless movies, anime, the web, his kids, the 80s and much more. Growing up in an artistic family has shaped him into the artist he is today. 2019 will see his work take a new direction, creating art and sculptures that get people talking, gets them thinking differently and bringing art to life. When Andrew is not day dreaming about art, he spends time with his two daughters and family.
People often ask me what inspires you? It’s kind of everything I see each day, street art, the web, fashion, sculpture, my kids and so much more that gives me inspiration for a new piece of work. If I think back to past inspiration, it was definitely the 80s that were most exciting years for me. I used to lay on the floor on my parents lounge room and drawing on the underside of their coffee table. Watching endless movies, anime, playing PlayStation for hours on end, walking the streets of Sydney and checking out the street culture and graffiti kept me hungry to learn more. My mind would be spinning when I got home, eagerly hitting my studio to create something new or sketch down my thoughts.
This inspiration has bought me to where I am today as an artist, every day I see or hear something new – especially in this digital age. Art and life moves at the speed of light, it’s sometimes too fast.
